Challenge

This is the basic idea. I will post a list of English verbs you roll a d6 (regular six sided die). Then you will pick a number of verbs from the list (as random as possible). I will create a tool for this later on. The challenge is to create a game design with a gameplay build on the actions you just picked.

This is mostly an exercise for myself but if you think it might be handy for yourself you should really try it.

Story 1 - Doctor smells Red House

Doctor smells Red House,

It was late in the evening. Brent was walking home from the hospital, it had been a long day of working the emergency room and he couldn't wait to lie down in his nice, warm bed. Today had been especially busy. He couldn't quite put his finger on what it was, but since two days ago there was something very odd about the people being put under his care, as if they were bitten by a large dog or some other large animal. However, when he asked them about it, they said they didn't know what was the source of the wounds. Brent shrugged it off, he had sent the files of the people to the lab and he would get the first results tomorrow.

He walked on, through the main street towards the alleyway, which would be a nice shortcut. Tonight was exeptionally cold and he wished to be home as soon as possible so he didn't really care how he would get there anyway. He was walking halfway through the alley as he started realizing he had never noticed the alley before. He was still pondering about this as a familiar scent washed up his nostrils. He sniffed a couple of times while trying to place the scent. His eyes widened, blood... it was the scent of blood! Brent looked around while trying to find the source of the scent, someone might be in trouble. He quickly follwed the smell, and a little while later he had found what looked to be the source of it.

A house, a red house or at least a house with red area's on it. It looked as though the owners of the house were planning on painting the entire thing red, at some spots the walls were still plain grey stone but most of them had already been painted red. Stone by stone it seemed. Brent shook his head and walked towards the door. "Hello? Is anyone there?" He shouted and knocked on the door. The sound echoed through the alleyway, but he didn't hear anything else. He tried looking through the windows but they were so caked full with dirt that he couldn't possibly see anything inside the house. The only thing he could see that there was a flickering light inside and that should mean someone was there.

The door creaked, Brent quickly turned around and saw the door was now open. "Hello? Anyone?" He started walking towards the door and looked inside.

There was a single oil lamp that lighted a small part of the mostly empty room. In the middle of the floor was lying a small human form in a dark pool of blood. His sense of duty taking over he ran towards the child. Fearing for the worst Brent crouched down next to him and turned the boy over onto his back. He gasped, a large gaping wound was where the boys stomach used to be, while knowing better he tried to feel for the boy's pulse. The hairs on the back of his neck rised as he felt the warm breath in his back... "Enjoyed the view?" A deep growling voice spoke. A sharp pain in his stomach area, he collapsed to the ground while grabbing at his stomach instantly knowing it was a fatal wound. He saw the vague silhouette of a large wolf-like creature leaping over him. Everything slowly went black while he realized, the house had become a little more red today.

Story telling game

I got myself a new game, it's called. "Klein vermakelijk 1001 verhalen vertel spel." (Little entertaining 1001 story telling game) It's in Dutch. The idea is that you pick out four cards from four differtent stocks. On every card there is a single word. First card is a person for example "Doctor", second card is something that happens for example "smells", third card is something special for example "red" and the fourth card is with whom or what and again for example "house". This is the title of the story you will tell the other people.

Now you are supposed to play this with other people, but I thought it would be a nice storywriting exercise for myself to write a story like this every now and then.

So you can read the first story right here here.

Enjoy!

My blog is online now

Well... I always kinda told myself "No way I'm gonna start a blog...". I actually don't know why not... but that's what I kept telling myself. It might have something to do with the fact that I don't really like small talk... and that there is a lot of blogs out there in which people just talk about... nothing... Offcourse "nothing" can be defined differently for everyone... it's a personal thing really...

Then I thought... "well why not... it's easy, and if it doesnt work well... Ill just delete it..."
So here's my blog, the idea is that I will post my art, stories and other stuff here... I don't think it will be all that interesting... but it's nice to be able to tell people who ask you what you do in life and what kind of art you make to go here to check it out for themselves.

Here's is my blog, it's gonna be about art... the english is bad... sorry for that...

Sleep well,

Rosemarie
